The Great Pretend

There is always a need to pretend.
That really cannot be true at all.
Sometimes we can be brutally honest,
We realize that truth is missed.

Sometimes we choose to pretend.
To put on a mask and face the world.
Are we always true to ourselves?
Can we spot hidden gems and pearls.

Perhaps we are pretending,
To be someone we are not.
We are just actors in a novel,
Bending a storyline to our will.

Life is a great and lovely pretend.
We imagine and live, start to end.
Life has its ups, downs, some high and some low.
Identity and personality need time to grow.

Sometimes we need to pretend,
So that we can fulfil our destiny.
Perhaps by pretending we do become,
The person we were meant to be.
